One way your body protects itself from toxins is by storing them in fat molecules. The more toxins you put in your system, the more fat you are going to hold onto. The cleaner you eat, the less fat you are going to carry around. Genetically modified foods, preservatives in packaged foods, and corn and soy by-products (like high fructose corn syrup), are all methods the food industry has come up with to increase their profit margins. As a result of eating these toxic, unnatural substances, our country is sicker than ever. Which, in turn, makes pharmaceutical companies wealthier than ever, as prescription orders rise. The greed of our food industry (#Monsanto, especially) and our pharmaceutical industry, as well as the FDA who supposedly regulates them, is literally killing us. Manufacturers and big agriculture corporations are using GMO seeds and chemicals to increase food production, shelf life, and profits. Packaged/processed foods contain addictive chemicals that mess with our intelligent hormone and brain chemistry systems that keep us healthy and mentally sound. As a result of consuming GMO and preservative-laden packaged food, we are more depressed, sicker, and fatter than ever. Also, the added sugar and refined carbohydrates, like enriched flour, that manufacturers use in packaged foods have a similar effect on our brains as cocaine. It’s addictive, damaging, and causes us to consume more and more and more. Please watch the documentary Fed Up for more information.

When shopping, look for ingredients on the label that you can’t pronounce or don’t recognize, and try to find a cleaner, more natural option. I avoid carrageenan, artificial food coloring, high fructose corn syrup, partially hydrogenated oils, and anything that sounds like a chemical, to name a few. The list of foods we should never put in our precious bodies is truly endless. Also, just because it is “gluten-free” or “natural” doesn’t mean it is healthy. Food companies use creative labeling with buzzwords like “gluten-free” to mislead consumers into thinking the product is good for them.

Buying organic may be difficult for some household budgets, but I can’t stress enough how it balances out for the better in the long run. If you are consuming “conventional” produce, you are taking in large amounts of pesticides and chemicals that are detrimental to your body and health. Eating organic will allow your system to function optimally for longer and you will most likely spend less money on prescription drugs and expensive treatments for all too common illnesses like cancer and diabetes.

You really are what you eat. That is why it is important to consume clean, whole foods, and animals that are raised on their natural diet and in their natural environment. Again, watch the doc Food, Inc. It offers a disturbing wealth of information about the lack of integrity of the food industry. You will see how chickens that are not organic and free-range grow to be sick, lame, and obese. They aren’t able to run free in a field as nature intended them. They are pumped with hormones to grow big juicy breasts. While these breasts are more appealing to the consumer, the hormones cause the chickens to become ill and obese. The same goes for beef. The cows that are pasture-raised and grass-fed are leaner, healthier, and happier. The cows that are grain-fed and corn-fed, are fat and flavorful, but riddled with disease because they are not being fed a diet that’s good for them. Many have diabetes and ulcers from their high-sugar diet, and are then pumped with antibiotics to keep these sores “clean”. Ew. Most of our Prime beef is corn or grain-fed. You might think it tastes better, but with every bite, you are most likely consuming the sick, depressed energy of the cow and all the antibiotics and hormones that come with it.

The consumption of these unhealthy meats, pesticides, preservatives, artificial additives, sugar, gluten, and white, enriched flour all cause inflammation in your body. Inflammation is your body’s response to injury or illness—in this case, toxicity. In normal instances, through increased blood flow to the effected area, the body sends immune fighter cells and key nutrients needed to heal the disease or wound. Inflammation is evidence that the human body is brilliantly designed to heal itself. BUT, when you are constantly putting more toxins in your body than you are flushing out, or consuming more sugar than your body can regulate with insulin, your body develops chronic inflammation. And chronic inflammation is at the root of all major disease including cancer, diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, and Alzheimers. Bottom line is to watch the carbs and sugar and eat as clean as possible!!
